McLeod, Robert

An old Crimean veteran, Sergeant Robert McLeod, died at Whangarei Hospital on Sunday morning. Deceased was formerly sergeant in the 53rd Regiment, and took part in the famous battle of Inkerman before Sevastapol.

At the close of the Crimean war he was presented to the Queen, who personally thanked him for his devotion and bravery.

In 1859, Mr. McLeod came to New Zealand, and for the last 30 years resided in the Whangarei district.
