Clark, William

Yesterday was the fiftieth anniversary, the jubilee, of the battle of Alma, in the Crimean War. Fifty years ago near the mouth of the Alma the British and French, under Lord Raglan and St. Arnaud defeated the Russians, under Menshikoff.

The loss of the Allies was about 3400 and that of the Russians 5000. The veteran Wm. Clark is probably the only surviving link with the Alma in Southland.

Mr Clark was a shoesmith attached to the artillery, and went through the battle.
