Hayward, George

One of the old identities of the district passed away when Mr George Hayward, of Normanby died to-day. Deceased was an old Crimean veteran, and subsequently served in New Zealand.

We believe that he obtained a grant of rural land at Normanby, the section on which he resided for so many years, and also a town section in Hawera, though we are not able to positively state that this was so but however that may be, he settled down here many years ago, and has seen plenty of change during his residence in this district, which dated back to about 1870.

He was brought into, the hospital for better care early this week, and died there today.
