An old veteran, in the person of Mr Thomas Fanning, passed away this morning. Deceased, who was aged 78 years, was born in Ireland. He served in the Crimean war and Indian mutiny. Arriving in Victoria on a visit to his sister, he met Colonel Pitt, with whom he came to New Zealand, and served as orderly during the Maori war. He arrived m Gisborne 28 years ago, and has been resident here ever since. He leaves a widow, two sons, and one daughter. Poverty Bay Herald, Volume XXXIII, Issue 10760, 13 August 1906, Page 2
