The remains of Mr. Thomas Lowden, aged 88, were interred at Kumara Cemetery on Sunday. Deceased (reports a Press Association telegram from Hokitika) was a Crimean veteran, being in the First Royal Irish Rifles, and fought at Alma, Inkerman and Sevastopol. He also fought in the Maori War. He had medals for all engagements. He was accorded a military funeral, and there was a large attendance of the public. A firing party, consisting mainly of returned soldiers, fired the volleys.
